If you could see me when I find a Stitch Fix package sitting outside my door, you'd laugh your face off. I love Stitch Fix so much. I've been receiving fixes for over 2 years now and they have seriously changed my style for the better. I consider myself clueless when it comes to fashion, and if it wasn't for them, I'd still be shopping in the junior's department for graphic tees or something (not like anything is wrong with that, but I had a hard time dressing my age I guess). And now, after having tried on pieces that were out of my comfort zone, it has taught me what to look for when I'm shopping now.
Just a quick recap about what Stitch Fix is:
Stitch Fix is a subscription service with your own personal stylist. Simply fill out you Stitch Fix style profile and a personal stylist will handpick a selection of five clothing items and accessories unique to your taste, budget and lifestyle. You can buy what you like and return the rest!
A lot of people ask me how I get fixes that I love nearly every time, and here's my 7 tips to help you get the perfect fix!
Make a pin board and link to it in your style profile
This is my most helpful tool, hands down. It makes it easy for your stylist to find pieces that they know you'll like, especially if you leave a comment below the pin with why you like it...color, style, etc. And if you follow Stitch Fix on Pinterest, and pin the things they do, there's a good chance you can receive the pieces you pin if they have it in your size and if it's in stock. Not all items are guaranteed, but your stylist will do their best to match pieces to what you like.
Keep your style profile updated
If you are pregnant, (they have maternity clothes!), if you are petite, if you gain or lose weight, update that. If your budget changes, if it's winter and you want all sweaters, if it's summer and you want all dresses, you can ask for that too. Very rarely do I receive a piece that doesn't fit. I am constantly being impressed by this, so know your sizes.
Leave a note for your stylist
There's a place for you to leave a note for your stylist before they put your fix together and ship it out. So if you have a special occasion that month, a job interview, a trip, or first date, tell your stylist. Be specific with what you'd like to receive.
Give feedback at check out
After you receive your fix, there is a text box to leave comments for each piece at checkout. Take advantage of this and explain why you are or aren't keeping certain pieces. This will help your stylist narrow down more and more what you do and don't like for next time.
If you receive a great fix, you can request the same stylist for next time
It's almost like dating...some stylists are your type, some may not be. Just leave your request for the same stylist in the note to your stylist. Same goes for if you don't like your stylist, you can ask to try a new one. No hard feelings!
Be open to pushing your comfort zone
The whole point of Stitch Fix, for me, is to get pieces that I'll not only love, but to get pieces that I wouldn't think to try on at the store. I'm always surprised at how I end up liking the pieces I look at and think, hmmm I don't know. Then once I try it on, I'm like, yea that's actually pretty cool!
If all else fails, keep at least one thing
If you don't really like anything in your fix, your 20$ stylist fee is non-refundable, so you might as well keep something to get your moneys worth. Then leave specific feedback at checkout and try again!

I have always wanted to try Stitch Fix, but I don't wear a size they service. I'm loosing weight, so maybe one day I'll get to try it out. In the meantime, I really wish they'd add plus sizes to their lineup. I'm pretty meh about shopping and stye most days, so Stitch Fix does seem right up my alley!
ReplyDeletei think they should totally have plus sizes too, i don't like that they don't have that. the largest size they currently offer is 14/XL. according to their FAQs, they say they are actively trying to work with brands that have plus sizes so perhaps one day!
ReplyDeleteI finally had to give up on StitchFix. I got a couple of good items out of it, but I think I was right on the border of their sizing, at an L/XL/14/16, & they just... maybe didn't have enough to work with in that sizing, or in styles that worked for me? Most of the items didn't fit, or I HATED them, & even though I created a Pinterest board, left detailed notes & feedback, etc., they kept getting me way, way off. I was bummed to quit it, but I ended up wasting a bunch of money.
