For a while I wasn't sure how I felt about scheduling a c-section. My ob office allows us a choice but only if baby A is head down. They are willing to deliver baby B breech if necessary or will try to turn them around. And while my baby A is indeed head down, I'm just not up for the surprises that can accompany a twin birth, plus I really don't want to do labor again. With my first born son, I spent 36 hours in the hospital and the birth turned out to be rather traumatic for me to the point where I have blank spots in my memories. I went into shock after he came out and begged to be knocked out. My husband had to do skin to skin and ward off family members' worried texts about my status. It was so bad that my midwife suggested coming in to see her sooner than the regular 6 weeks postpartum checkup to make sure I didn't have postpartum depression. While I did have the "baby blues" for two weeks, they seemed to go away on their own and I didn't require any further medication, thankfully.
So with this pregnancy, I was undecided for a while up until around 25 weeks or so. It was almost as if a light bulb went of in my head out of the blue one day where I just *knew* a c-section was the right choice for me. It just felt right and I wasn't really fearful of it anymore. For me, what's more fearful than surgery, are the unexpected surprises like possibly delivering one twin vaginally and one twin via c-section anyway...which I truly feel could have happened to me since baby B is SO high up...or some other life-threatening complication that could happen to either one of the babies. I just want them to get out ASAP. Plus, I'd like to start off on this new chapter with some sort of energy in me, where with my last birth, I was definitely depleted and in the negative-energy zone. I could've slept for 3 days which was impossible.
So with all that being said, here's what I've packed in my hospital bag for my scheduled twin c-section! I've had my bag completely done and ready by 31 weeks pregnant and I plan on keeping it in my car until the birth in case I get news at one of my many checkup appointments that I better get thee over to the hospital for whatever reason.
