My Birthday Shopping Extravaganza

I turned 36 on March 9. Yikes! If the decade of my 30's were a scale, I'm starting to tip closer to the side of 40 and I really don't like that. Actually, I damn near forgot it was my birthday with all the shit that's been going on with selling our house. But I'm going to wait to post that until our buyers and us sign ALLLLL the contracts and are done done done! Sheesh.

But regardless, I got to spend the morning alone. Which sounds sad, but seriously, it was the best thing ever. Brian stayed home with Lachlan while I went to Hobby Lobby, a kid's consignment store for baby clothes, Motherhood Maternity for some new jeans and I got a smoothie and chicken sandwich for lunch.

It doesn't sound like a big deal, but man, being able to go shopping (and NOT grocery shopping) and walk around slowly and without purpose is something you don't really think about missing until you can't do it anymore.

I walked up and down each aisle in Hobby Lobby and was there for an hour and a half. I even back tracked and went through twice! I ended up buying a few decorations for the house with a gift card from my mom. Then I drove across the parking lot to where there is a pretty nice kid's consignment shop. I have so many boy clothes already but nothing for baby girl. So I got about 20 little outfits, sleepers, and onesies for her. And come to think of it, most of the newborn boy clothes we have are for winter, and with the twins coming in late spring, maybe I should still look into getting boy clothes....anyway...

After that I drove over to Motherhood Maternity and tried on about 8 pairs of maternity jeans. The ones I have now are so god awful ugly it was starting to affect my self esteem. They are bootcut but in "regular" length so they drag on the ground and just look junky. They slide off my hips so my butt always looks droopy. So I tried on a bunch of "skinny" jeans and ankle length jeans. Holy shit, let me tell you it's hard to take off skinny jeans with a huge belly in the way. I was huffing and puffing in there, using my feet to pull the jeans down my leg the rest of the way. But I found 2 that looked and felt pretty good. I totally should've bought them weeks ago, but I had a hard time justifying spending $40+ on a pair of jeans I'll only wear for a few more months. But man, some things are just worth the investment to feel good about yourself, especially at a time like this. A time where everything is uncomfortable and hurts. So I splurged on 2 pairs for a buy 1 get one half off deal.

And as I was walking to my car to head home, I saw a smoothie shop a few doors down and I was happy to see they made sandwiches too. So I ordered some lunch and headed back home.

It was seriously the best 4 hours I've spent alone in such a long time.

And Brian got me a new tablet because my other one officially died. I had it for 5 years, maybe? Stuff doesn't last that long anymore!

  1. I love that you got a few precious hours to yourself on your birthday!
This is the way to celebrate.

I also went on a little shopping trip for my birthday and while I don't have kids and could *theoretically* do that anytime, I don't do it often enough and it felt glorious!
