A-Z of Me: Knitting is Hard

Since learning how to crochet, I've been also wanting to learn how to knit. An ultimate accomplishment would be to knit a sweater one day. But so far it seems damn near impossible to get the hang of. It feels awkward holding needles in both hands instead of just one. I am hoping that I'll catch on much like I did with crochet, where I had to come back to it a year later and ready to try again. But right now, I find it incredibly frustrating.

There are many yarn shops around here, maybe I'll sign up for a beginners knitting class one day.

  1. I felt exactly the same way... I never could get the hang of it, felt awkward & clumsy. I took a knitting class in May and it was one of the best things I spent money on in my crafty life! I'm now feeling like I've got the hang of holding on to the needles, and of knitting and purling, and am looking into a class with double pointed needles as my knitting ambition is to work up a pair of socks! Keep working at it, it'll come!!

  2. That's exactly how I felt...about crochet. Since I started with knitting, I still don't have the hang of crochet. I'm getting better, but it never comes out as evenly as I'd like. Stick with knitting and I'm sure it will start feeling more natural eventually. :)

  3. I feel the opposite! I started with knitting, so it feels natural to me. I have no idea how to crochet and it looks super hard and makes no sense to me :P

  4. I felt this way for a loooooong time! Then I finally watched some YouTube videos and made some knitted stuff. I'm no pro, but I can make mitts and scarves finally! haha it's sooo different from crochet, but a lot fo fun once you get the hang of it!

  5. It's really a matter of practice. Once your fingers get more comfortable with yarn tension and holding two needles, it's pretty fun! I crochet and knit and like both! :)

  6. If you lived near me, I'd be happy to teach you to knit! I miss teaching knitting classes. And you could help me brush up on my very basic crochet skills :)

  7. The knittinghelp.com continental knitting videos are what helped me get it. She holds her yarn the same way I do in crochet, so it was easier to transition. I imagined the left handed needle as the top edge of my crochet piece. Crochet came quick, but it took a few tries to get used to knitting. You'll get there eventually! I imagine having someone there in person would be super helpful.

  10. Knitting is very hard. Keep at it. You can do it! The slowness of knitting is what kills me. Everything seems like it will take a month of my life to complete.
