Introducing a new and improved Habitual Homebody

Hey guys! I just wanted to announce real quick that I installed a new layout on my blog last night using the ever popular Genesis framework and a child theme. I was so scared of doing it by myself but it was really easy. You literally just upload the zip file and drag and drop widgets where you want them. I was all about simplicity and organization with this layout.

Here's a few of the changes I made:

The one I'm most excited about is the gallery for all my crochet projects. The link is in the upper menu bar. Instead of having to scroll through pages of posts tagged with 'crochet' you can now see them all on one page with thumbnails. It took a little sleuthing to figure it out since I couldn't find a plugin that allowed you to link to the project's blog post, but the one I installed adds a URL box to the image...ehh I'm not gonna explain anymore than that since I really have no idea lol.

I made a new About page. And yup, that 4th heart is on Denver. We decided to take Brian's company up on their irresistible offer to relocate there sometime this summer. An official blog post on that will come next week. I am relieved.

You can now find all my social media links and ways to subscribe to posts up in the menu bar.

And I moved my daily blog reads to their own page to clean up the sidebar a bit and allow more space for my affiliates. I hope you don't mind!

Some of the things that aren't working:
The pin-it-now plugin stopped working a few weeks ago even before I changed layouts and I have no idea how to get it to work again. That was probably my favorite plugin too. I've tried installing multiple other plugins too without success. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, I'd really appreciate hearing your tips!

The 3 column footer is acting funky in that the widths are not the same so the last column is ridiculously wide while the first two aren't and I have no idea how to fix that.

I can't get my original favicon to show up and I have no idea how to remove the child theme's heart favicon.

No big deal though. But I hope you like it! Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions on how to improve anything. I'd also love to hear about some of your favorite plugins!

  1. LOVE the new layout and theme! (I use Genesis, too.) I see you got your favicon to work, I'm seeing your HH in the browser tab. For the pinterest pin it button for images, there was a recent update with that plugin and WP and they're not meshing - I had the same problem, so I nixed it.

  2. Love it! New design looks great!

And hey, I live in Denver!

Looks like by the demo of the theme, that that third footer widget really is huge! I see the demo has popular posts gallery in there... This could be changed by editing the CSS and resizing things a bit...

Your favicon can be changed if you upload a new one over the file in the theme--so you'll need to FTP it, or if you have cPanel you can access the files through there.

Not sure about the pin it plugin--which one were you using? Have you tried deleting it and reinstalling?

  7. thanks erin!
in regards to the favicon, someone said they still see the HH so idk whats going on. but i do have cpanel. im not very familiar with it though.

The Pinterst plug in I was using was Pinterest Pin It Button for Images. And then I tried Pin It! Button but neither work. Oh well no biggie. I'll figure it out next time I get the overwhelming urge to get down to it :)

That's cool you're in Denver. I may have to pick your brain about neighborhoods you may know. We're thinking of flying out next month to take a look around. But the houses we are seeing online are amazing!
